Belway's Homes, Oxford, 2003

Permanent work installed in public garden, Oxford. (formally a Post Office sorting office)

The do’s and don’t’s of acceptable public behaviour repeat themselves again and again:
‘do not litter’, keep dogs on lead, do not light fires’ ‘it is forbidden....’etc.

However, if certain words in these texts are isolated they take on another
meaning other than the one originally intended. These same words also
implied a more thoughtful and contemplative meaning to their surroundings-
appropriate given that a garden is, or can be, a place for contemplation,
relaxation and enjoyment of the flora and fauna.
This is say nothing of more personal, private thoughts.
